Meet the 2018 RFTG Book Scholarship Recipient!

We are pleased to announce that Ariana Adames has been selected as this year’s winner for the highly competitive Reach for the Gold Book Scholarship. We received several outstanding applications and equally exceptional recommendations making the selection process very competitive for our Scholarship Review Committee this year.  Her devotion to serving others and strong commitment to improving the lives of her community as she pursues her career, in the computer science field is admirable. Additionally, her academic excellence and  involvement in her school, local community, and academic programs such as several honor societies and a coding project through the Girl Scouts,made her stand out among the many fierce candidates.

Ms. Adames  will pursue a degree in Computer Science  at Massachusetts Institute of Technology beginning this Fall. She describes her future goals as:

“I want to be able to create sustainable energy sources for struggling communities, integrating software if possible. Lastly, I would like to continue my ‘Coding a Future for Girls’ Girl Scout Gold Award Project into a full-fledged nationwide non-profit organization with after-school, summer camp capabilities, and possibly a new organization for young Latinas named Chicas Conectadas.”

The Reach for the Gold Book Scholarship recognizes academic and benevolent achievement among young women of color, and supports continued success through the first year of college.  Therefore, we believe Ms. Adames embodies the values of the scholarship and will receive $1,000 towards achieving her academic goals.
